I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

Well it was a girl and its not like foaming at the mouth or anything it just has a little bit of thinning hair near the tail. It did pierce my skin but didnt bleed. I dont want to get rabies!

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

please you wont get rabies

worry more about it getting infected

wash with warm water and soap use an antibiotic cream and a scooby doo band aid you will be fine

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

If it's your friend's dog they should know if the shots are up to date. If your worried though, tell your friend to take you to the dr. and they should pay for the shots.

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

Ask your friend if the dog has had it's shots and ask to see the rabies vaccine papers. If he can't or won't show them to you, call your local animal control officer. The officer will sort things out for you.

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

If the dogs shots are up to date- you're fine- if not you should make sure the dog hasn't been in a fight with any other animals recently(if it has, get checked out by a doctor ASAP)- thinning hair near the tail is usually just a sign of flea allergy, it has nothing to do with rabies. Chances are since you didn't bleed, you wouldn't contract anything at all from the bite-relax and keep an eye on the dog for the next 10 days- if it has rabies you will be well aware of it by then.

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

The odds of the dog having rabies are very very low. Its almost gone in this country. If it didn't bleed you don't need to worry about it. Just put on a bit of anti-bacterial cream. If you do go to the doc for it they will want to take the dog for "observation" for a min of 5 days in which she will be treated like a prisoner in a tiny cage and no love and attention. if the dog is aggressive than it is your friend's fault and she needs to be put in the cage for not training her dog.

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

Rabies are far and few between these days, but if your freind has not gotten shots for the dog it should be locked up for 2 weeks just to be on the safe side.

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

Don't risk..take an injection from the medic soon....For symptoms will only be shown later...This is if you don't no the dog well. Even my pets sometimes bite, but in a friendly manner

If the pet is having rabies, it will

1.have saliva pouring out of it mouth

2.hair loss in rounds from the body

3.shows uneasiness.

4.not be intereted in taking food.

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

wow man really you would no if the dog had rabies ok so dont worry and around the tail can just be lost of hair or bitten by flies ok ...maby if a dog you dont no bit you...worry about it...lmfaoo

anyways if your that worryed go to the docters to cheack it outt

hope this helps

I got bit by my friends dog but i dont know if it has rabies? What should i do?

Your friend should know if the dog has had it's shots or not. If not, then your friend should take you to the doctor, and the dog to the vet.

Dog being aggressive?

I adopted a fox terrier (wire hair) last Saturday. Yesterday he peed on the couch, when my boyfriend got up to put him in his kennel (as punishment) he growled and lunged at him.

Today, I dropped a wrapper from taco bell and he tried eating it. I gently pushed him away with my foot and he attacked my foot, biting down hard and growling. Both times he let go immediatly and took off under a table where he rolled over and started whimpering.

What is going on? Is it possible he was abused? Is this something I can correct without taking him to classes? Please help, I'm fairly broke at the moment and can't really afford to do that. I will if it comes down to it but I really would like to avoid it and maybe learn in the process. Thank you

Dog being aggressive?

Sorry to say but it sounds to me more like he had a family that was too lazy to train him and dumped the poor fellow for that very reason. First off don't use the crate for punishment as if it's a jail. It's his den, his safe place so don't change his view of it. Secondly get him into training ASAP! Find a certified trainer that has experience with aggressive dogs. His behavior can be corrected but not without a qualified trainer to work with you and the dog.

It's a crying shame people abuse their dogs by not taking any time to train them, than dump them off like yesterdays garbage, but they do. An untrained dog is a truly unhappy dog. He can be made a happy dog by training him. Talk to the people where you adopted him, they might be able to help. If you decide to give the dog back wait until you're not so broke so you can do the vet and training as needed. GL sorry this happened to you

ADDED:

When he's doing something he shouldn't distract him away with something better. If it's something plastic give him a better toy or treat. If it's like a food wrapper, give him a small peice of cheese or hot dog, when he's done with the treat try to get him onto a toy...get the idea? Then praise like crazy when he's doing it right. And don't give him any people food at all when you're eating, plus make sure he doesn't have access to any (counter surfing). This distract/lure tactic will also work for chewing up the house, just distract him away. If you can walk him go for it! Be careful around strangers in case he gets aggressive to them, but walk him 2xs a day for a half hour to (even better) an hour to wear him out. A tired dog does a lot less mischief!

Another thing...the way he reacts to corrections suggests his only form of training was getting smacked or yelled at. When you correct a puppy or dog like that it teaches them nothing. All they know is you're mad as hell and hitting them, instilling fear and distrust. They don't even understand WHY you're mad! There are much better ways to train in a positive way that actually TEACH and this dog needs it. But he's already displaying aggressive behaviors which is understandable for a dog who only knows getting smacked around and no real training. So be careful you don't do the same! Get some professional help for the poor guy. You'll end up with a dog you can live with and feel good you showed him life can be better with better people.

And yes, not training a dog is abuse IMO. A trained dog is a confident dog and lives a much happier life

If you're really broke google dogwise and buy these two books, but understand you will still do better with a trainer. But this can help in the meantime...

Behavior/Training:

Bones Would Rain from the Sky by Suzanne Clothier - this book was just suggested to me. I haven't read it yet but more than one person recommended so it's on my reading list. It looks good!

When Pigs Fly by Jane Killion

Dog being aggressive?

Feed him by hand, it will help aton Report It

Dog being aggressive?

well if he is under the age of 2 its normal when i got my jack russel terrier he did he same thing just wait a while and if he dosnt grow outta it he might be sick . if u go to pet him and he courads down then u can tell if he was beat as a puppy

Dog being aggressive?

Sounds like he was abused and starved but he seems to have gotten the idea that you are the alpha dog. Don't use your foot.

Might I also suggest that you go to the Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, website and see if you can pick up some tips. Maybe you could go to amazon.com and pick up a used book by Cesar Milan.

I would also suggest that you give this doggie lots of love and attention but also be firm. Do not use the crate for punishment use words such as no, bad dog, etc.

There may come a time that you need to crate you dog for an extensive trip and the dog will get the idea that he is being punished during the entire trip and end up being traumatized.

Just my suggestion.

Dog being aggressive?

fox terriors and jack russells are naturally aggressive breeds of dogs. What you need to do is to show him that you are boss, never raise him above your head level, you should always be higher than him, to show who's in charge.

when he growls, say no in a firm voice and ignore him

all it takes is mainly patience and training

another thing, the saying that you cant teach an old dog new tricks is total lies. My dog is 8 years old and i taught her to close doors in about 3 days

Dog being aggressive?

Apparently he had to fight litter mates or other dogs for food and became, I think they call it,food aggressive. I call it hungry. That can be changed to a reasonable degree as soon as he figures out no more going hungry. Then probably punished for fighting for his share as the running under the table and going submissive immediately (belly up) behavior indicates . He is afraid. He needs to adapt a little more before somebody "punishes him to much" Give the kid at least four days to figure out the rules. He can not read your mind .......yet. Try not to yell a bunch just a firm slightly louder no will help him figure territory etc. And lots of love and attention treats when he sits at your leg or sits in your lap or what ever. Try not to over react to bad behavior again a firm loud no or if possible ignore bad behavior, The sweetie will be food driven probably all his life but that can be a great!! thing for training. You will be amazed at what he will do for food! lol The first four days he is a newbie . I would not use the crate as punishment that is like sending a kid to his room he learns to hate his bed. Oh yeah did I say lots of attention He really needs to know this is his home and he is safe. Not a new place he has to figure out really fast and heck it is only four days. Patience is a virtue till you meet a terrier and then it is sainthood hahaha lol

Where did you get him? breeder? store? humane shelter ?

seems he has had a tough life before now. Help him trust you and things will be fine. Reward good ( positive attention)

ignore bad (no attention) One of the worst punishments for a dog is to ignore him/her. They are pack animals!! So social interaction is one of the things they live for!

Oh cereal like cheerios make great baby bites . Tear up a piece of bread and butter bite size Got an old sock knot it up play with it, high pitch sounds oh what a good boy remind him of his mamas' whines of love.

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

our shihtzu's almost 1 year old and his hair is kinda long and messy, soo my sister went to a groomer to do our shihtzu. what happened is they shaved him all up and now he ended up looking like a hotdog. hes really upset with his new do and now hes hiding under our bed. im also worried because he has this rashes and his peniss is kinda swollen too. what can i do?

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

they had to shave him, his knots(matts) were too bad, when this happens the knots of hair are right at the skin, and pinches them, so really he probably feels lots better! He may have been scared from being at the groomers, I'm sure he was there awhile, and sounds like he hasn't gone before. You just need to love on him, his hair will grow back, but you must brush it all the time so he doesn't suffer anymore:)

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

My shih tzu had the same problem. His hair was so tangled up and messy, full of knots and his fur was matted so we took him to the groomers and they had to shave it all off. He was very upset when he returned and he hid in corners.

Try to spend some time with ur dog, pet him and try to offer him some treats in time he will forget about the incident.

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

He is probably just still feeling nervous from being to the groomers. If he had knots in his fur he is better off now being shaved. Just give him some time and he will be back to normal. Make sure when his hair starts growing back out to keep him brushed everyday, this way he shouldn't get any more knots and will look and feel better!

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

Tell your sister you're mad at her and take the dog to the vet... or at least call the vet to find out what to do about his rashes. As far as the hair problem, make sure you brush him at least every other day if not every day. He won't get all matted then and will also be a much happier dog. Give him some positive attention though after that experience at the groomer. He'll get used to it. :)

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

Your sister did the right thing. They had to shave him to get knots out. The rash is probably from knot ts pulling his skin. His penis did not swell from grooming. It probably looks bigger with no hair. He is probably under bed cause it is warmer and he may be cold with his hair shaved. Get him a little shirt or hoodie. Or a nice little warm blanket to cuddle up with. And keep him brushed DAILY!!

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

Time will cure his haircut. Try some baby powder or Gold Bond medicated powder for the rashes

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

Shih tzus need to be brushed daily if kept in a long coat, otherwise they get horrible matted coats and cutting them short is the only thing you can do. Although its possible that the groomer did a bad job, its equally possible the rashes may have already been on his skin under the mats because the skin gets irritated by being pulled by the mats. You need groom your dog every single day or else take him to a groomer every 4-6 weeks and keep him in a shorter clip (though not as short as the one you have now which is due to the mats).

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

well i have a shihzu and i had to get him shaved but he didn't react to it and maybe you should take him to the vet for the rashes and private part swolleness.

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

you should buy him a little jacket and give him way more attention then usual.

O and maybe buy hi a toy to cheer him up.

My shih tzu had the same problem.

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

the rashes could have been caused from hair pulling as they were shaving him, or it could be something more serious. With his penis swelling, he could have had an allergic reaction to something the groomers put on him after.

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

The reason the groomer shaved him was probably because he was so matted it was the only thing to do. As for the rash and his other problem, take him to the vet. Why do people not take their animals to the vet when there is obviously something wrong with them? I don't get it.

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

I own three furbabies. I always have the groomer give them a puppy cut. I love the look, much easier to take care of. And believe me it gets expensive. I own a dog clipper and sometimes when I have the time, I groom them myself.

I feel bad for my shihtzu dog. HELP!?

tell your sister you are mad, and go talk to the groomer and vet

Dog problem?

i have a rottwieler and he licks his paw for a while and then he starts to losse his hair y is tht

Dog problem?

Seems like you wandered off just as you were finishing your post.

Your dog might have a skin allergy. This can sometimes be helped by changing his diet. Avoid any food containing grain, especially corn and wheat. Avoid common proteins like chicken and beef. There are some foods available made with venison and pea or duck and potato. Try some of those. If that isn't successful consider a real meat diet for him.

Dog problem?

It could be he was bitten by something, causing him to lick. Losing his hair could be from the friction of licking or from a bacterial infection either due to the bite, or the irritation from licking. Rotties are prone to skin irritations because of their dry skin. Mine is always getting a little infection here or there. Take him to the vet, they can do a skin scraping to see if it is fleas or anything serious and can give antibiotics.

Dog problem?

maybe there's something stuck in his paw...if not..maybe he's itchy...all dogs shed...i don't think he just started to...do u mean loose hair like...in patches?? if so, you would need to take the dog in the see a vet. hope all things well!

Dog problem?

probably just irratated... or bored.

many dogs bite there paws when there bored.

hard to believe and might sound dumb

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

Here is the pic....

http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h160/k...

He is a 6 and a half week old Great Dane. I went to the vet after purchasing my puppy and asked him and he took a quick look and said it was a pimple. Yet it doesn't pop like a pimple and I was wondering if it may look like a blocked whisker follicle or something. There is no hair coming out of the middle of it, but there is a little indent in the middle of the bump. What do you guys think it is?

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

Yup its an infected hair folicle. You can use some mild pimple cream on it just before putting the pup down for the night or even a stridex pad for sensitive skin and wipe it with one of those. Pups often get these if their sloppy drinkers. Also are you using stainless steel water and food dishes?? If not get some. Plastic bowls and ceramic bowls will harbor bacteria and can cause these little bumps. They usually go away on their own. Only get worried if they become hugh.

You pup is very cute!

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

p.s. ...picked up some Canidae Lamb and brown rice (all life stages) food today which I will be mixing with my Natural Choice Lg. Breed Puppy formula till the Natural Choice is gone. Then I will be switching to the Canidae. thanks for the suggestion Report It

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

Your so very welcome. I hope your pup is a wonderful as I think it will be. The very best of luck! Report It

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

If it doesn't go away try another vet.

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

I would keep and eye on it, if it does not get any better or does not go away with in a couple of weeks I would take him back to the vet or to another vet.

I have never heard of a dog getting a pimple

~JP

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

hmmm i would say a pimple

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

Why didn't your vet try to lance it? Did he put him on an antibiotic? How long has he had this?

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

I'm sorry but wen my doy had a bump on its nose it was cancer get it checked again plez

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

looks to be a blocked folicle.. I would gently try and squeeze it...

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

My puppy gets them a lot, he actually looks like your dog... I think my dog gets them from his mouth getting rubbed up against things when he chews on stuff. I keep him in a kennel at night and sometimes he rubs his nose on the bars and gets little blistery looking bumps like that. If the vet said it was a pimple and wasn't too worried, I would assume it's not a big problem. They go away on my puppy after a about a week or so. Pretty much like a pimple on my face would if I left it there.

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

It is perfectly harmless! I have a 19 month old Great Dane and she gets these all the time playing with my other dogs. They are pimples to a degree and also little nip marks. They do go away on their own and do not need treatment of any kind. Don't play with them as they will sometimes hurt the dog a little but not much-only when pushed and picked at. It is absolutely nothing to worry about. Just enjoy him and make sure you train him now so he learns you are pack leader.

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

It looks just like the bumps my English Bulldog used to get on his snout. I believe they were called either some type of cyst or a cellesion. Either way, he needed antibiotic ointment to get rid of them,he got one about every summer for 3 years, sometimes 2 per year. They sometimes gor real res a puffy and they looked horrible. I actually thought the first one was like a pimple so I tried to pop it...I know gross...it shot across the room and it smelled horrible it's both puss and blood inside and I don't recommend squeezing it. That will only make it larger and more sore for him. Get some ointment called Derma-Vet and he may even need an oral antibiotic because it's a skin infection. Let me know how he does.Your description is identical to what I am talking about,it doesn't pop like a pimple if it's not big enough,it will if it gets big,it has no hair but a hole in the center...this is exactly what my dog used to get..you need an antibiotic topical for sure, possibly oral too. please keep me .posted

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

My dog had a similar bump on his nose. It turned out that it was a pimple. All we could do was use alcohol swabs on it to dry it out. As with humans, you wouldn't want to pop it. You should let it take care of itself so it doesn't get infected. If you notice any swelling this could be a sign of infection. Otherwise, your cute puppy should be fine in no time! Good luck to you both :)

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

Some breeds are prone to these on their snouts and the inside of the ear whehn they are young. They are some kind of cyst that will go away on its own. When my dog got them, my vet took a small sample just make sure it wasn't cancer and then left them alone and said if they didn't go away by the time he was 6 months then he would remove. They all went away on their own within one month.

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

im not sure what it is but my dog gets them too and my vet told me it was a pimple. i just leave them alone and sometimes they go away and sometimes they dont. i would wash it up and clean it. it could be a blocked folicle. so just try to wash it everyday and maybe use a pimple cream im not sure if it will work.

What is this bump on my dog's snout? (picture included)?

It is a pimple. Most likely from a whisker follicle. When you puppy goes through his teenage stage in about 6 months, he will probably get many of them. While he is a little young for such a large pimple, I would not be concerned at this time.

However keep an eye on it. Demotic mange and/or strangles is a little more serious. These are more auto-immune issues, often found in less than quality bred Great Danes and other breeds when a breeder does not much care for genetic health.

As a first time Dane owner with so many questions I recommend you download the book: "The Great Dane, Model of Nobility" by Jill Swedlow. If you google Sunnyside Danes or Sunstryke Danes Jill offers the download for free. If you can find a hard copy get that, but they are hard to find as her book is now out of print.

Her book covers proper food for giant breeds, the pimple thing, crate training, puppy socialization, etc.......The only thing I disagree with her book is the ear cropping. Ear cropping is not medically necessary and purely for cosmetic reasons. I have two natural eared danes and two cropped ones. Both of the cropped dogs have had many vet visits to deal with ear problems. The natural eared Danes, never once.

You sound pretty excited about having a Dane puppy. They are quite fun.

Good luck

Why does my daughters dog bite it's tail???

My daughter has a 10 mo. old male Pekingese it has been chewing on it's tail. His hair was very long on his tail and in just a couple of days he has chewed the hair off to almost within a half inch of his tail. What would cause him to do this is it medical or boredom??

Why does my daughters dog bite it's tail???

Well he is a puppy be giving him chew bones and toys.....he is probably just being playful and bored. He could also have a skin condition. Get him to the doctor.

Why does my daughters dog bite it's tail???

Tell me more. Is he playing with his tail? Or, is he obsessively chewing on his tail? The answer depends on how you answer these two questions.

Why does my daughters dog bite it's tail???

Fleas

Why does my daughters dog bite it's tail???

Could be fleas or worms. Take him to the vet. Could be skin condition but it needs to be checked by a vet.

Why does my daughters dog bite it's tail???

may be it may be playing with its tail,or may be it have some icchings in its tail

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

I think our lab should be cropped, she likes it looking like a hippy. Thoughts on resolving pet issues? How ticked would she be if I shaved it down like a short hair retriever?

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

wow SO not the question i thought it would be..

you sly dog...

maybe you should compromise by getting the dog groomed once, so she can see if she likes it. you never know.

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

huh?????????????

leave the lab alone if you don't hunt.

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

wrong category ?

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

why dont you get your own dog and this way she can have hers the way she wants and you can raise, and style yours anyway you want too ..

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

I think you should talk to your wife and decide what kind of style you would want for your dog that will look good, but also is good for the dog as well.

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

LOL Don't make your wife mad.

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

well, I like doggie any style...lol

Fighting wth wife because she loves dog style?

Man, the "switcheroos" just keep coming.

Hey hey hey try the "weiner in her mouth... at a BBQ" one. Or the "threesome without my wife... at a golf match" one. Or hey try the old "wife caught me pounding the neighbor lady's... fence with new nails" one.

Dang those are funny.
