I bought a dog (GSd)................?

he is fully light tan in colour...........very few black hair at her shouldurs and small hair....................................... now i doubt if it is germanSD.................?????????????? can GSD be as i told

He probably is a tan sable. How old is he? By the way, Rin Tin Tin was not a traditional black and tan!!!! The original Rin Tin Tin was a silver sable German Shepherd. Can you post pictures of your dog? Sable Shepherds are born darker at birth and then their coat lightens up a lot until about 12 -14 weeks of age. Then their black guard hairs start coming in again. Some of the pups can look almost a peachy color at this point. Some will be tan with a black muzzle and a skunk like stripe down their backs.

It's hard to tell from your brief description. German shepherds can be all tan, white, black/tan, etc. It would be best if you could post a picture.

Yes. It does help if you have got the papers to prove it. Did you get him from a reputable breeder? Hope so...

Sounds like he is though. Loopie x

Yes, Not all German Shepherd dogs are marked like Rin-Tin-Tin, I suggest, you either buy a book on German Shepherds, Visit the Pet section of your local library, or go on line to AKC.com and find out more about the breed. Hint German Shepherds also may vary in coat length. You could also contact your breeder. A reputable breeder will help you with any doubts you have, and may even take the pup back, if you are dissatisfied. Regardless the color of the dog is not as important as your relationship with the dog. If you love him/her what difference does it make. I hope you are also recieving training for your dog, it is invaluable. Good luck with your new dog.

Anyone who has to ask "Is this a WotZit" is certain to deserve the answer "No".

For a pooch to be a member of the WotZit breed, it and its ancestors must all be recorded in that country's official Breed Registry for the WotZit breed.

Being recorded in that Breed Registry doesn't mean that it is a GOOD and TYPICAL WotZit, just that all its ancestors were WotZits, and so IT is a pure-bred WotZit.

Breeders of registered WotZits issue a pedigree with the registration details of both parents and the pup, and (depending on the regulations in their country) either post off the Change of Ownership Form they got the buyer to sign, or hand it to the buyer to fill in and post off with the transfer fee. The AKC allows cheapskate "breeders" to even hand the Registration Application Form to the buyer to fill in and post off with the Registration fee.

Okay - if the vendor of your pup gave you no Form to sign then you can be certain that one or both parents are NOT recorded in the Breed Registry, and you will be unable to have your pup registered as a German Shepherd Dog.

Won't stop you getting him registered in the "limited" or "obedience only" Register and entering in agility, fly ball, herding, obedience tests, Rally O, working trials. But you will be unable to enter in breed classes at shows, and unable to have his progeny registered.

But so what? - obviously you did not go to a reputable breeder who charged you for a breeding quality and show-quality GSD, complete with a Guarantee detailing what the breeder will refund/replace for. You went to a pet store (who is an agent for puppy millers) or a pet-only BYB "breeder".

You very likely got a pup with no pedigree, or a probably forged pedigree; it is probable that neither parent has been certified as low risk for hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia.

it is certain that you didn't get a pup whose parents both possess a Breed Survey Report, for which just the pre-entry conditions pretty well guarantee you a handsome, intelligent, low-maintenance GSD.

If he escapes the HD and ED and various other genetic scourges likely to be present in the genes of dogs from cheap-skate sources, it is over to you to make the best possible use of his brains so that he will be a wonderful pet. All sorts of dogs can be wonderful pets, they don't have to be GSDs, they don't even have to be purebred.

The GSD gene pool has alleles for a wide range of "colours", so a purebred GSD can be almost any colour %26amp; marking except brindle, true-gray (gray-sable is in "our" gene pool, but true gray is not), merle, piebald or ticked.

Liver, blue, self-white are banned, as are long-coats - also oversize and too-deep and more than 1 missing tooth. But merely displaying a banned feature doesn't mean that the pooch is a crossbreed, just that the pooch is not of breeding %26amp; showing quality.

And the photos I have of Rin Tin Tin and his son, Sonny, show gray-sables, not silver sables as one answerer stated. I'd guess that that person is thinking of the very "washed out": descendants of Odin v.Busecker Schloé‘´? the ones who featured in the tv series but had nothing to do with saving the film studio from bankruptcy. Those Odin descendants were born saddle-marked and lost their black; they had names like Rin Tin Tin II and Rin Tin Tin IV. Daphne romanticises the blood-line somewhat, beginning with her insistence that Odin was a Sieger or Grand Victor - he was neither, being beaten for both titles by his half brother, Pfeffer v.Bern, a dog of better colour %26amp; size.
