a lot of people mistakenly think big dogs need a whole lot of exercise. this is true only in the working dog class.ie the retrievers, shepards,terriers ect. but there are exceptions. like the great dane. now these dogs don't need a lot of space like most think. they are very mellow and laid back dogs. they dont eat like you would think either. they are also extremely affectionate and very loyal. it might be just the dog for you.they even do well in apartments.

I live in a small house with a small yard. I adopted a beagle (9 months old) and she is WONDERFUL! They are very relaxed in the home and they love to go for short walks (make sure you use a lead when going for a walk because beagles by nature are hunters and if they find a scent, they will be off and running). Now, some beagles have a tendency to howl when they bark but there are ways of training your beagle to only bark at appropriate times (which with training you can do with any dog). I've found she makes a great pet and they are very good with other dogs and people.
