12 lb dog not eating, possible hairball...?

My 12 lb Norwich terrier plays with a golden retriever and sometimes comes home and coughs up/throws up a hairball or two.

They hung out yesterday for a long time and this morning he refused his breakfast. He ate a little bit of white rice and threw that up... we found small bits of carrot... a few small VERY tight hairballs and rice. I'm concerned that another hairball in there might be big, and blocking his intestine a bit... he is walking around some and drinking water. His BM this morning was runny but contained no blood or hair. He does not seem in awful shape.. just not eating still and he seems content to lounge around. I can tell he is uncomfortable.

Watch the dog carefully overnight. If he's stable, then call the vet FIRST THING in the AM!!!

However, if he starts to crash at all, he needs to get into an emergency vet ASAP. If you don't have that information handy, locate it right now and map it out so that you aren't fumbling when you should be driving.

Good luck and I hope that the pup is ok. : )

It could be anything. Take your dog to the vet; don't risk his life.

It could be something very serious. Call your vet. Have him checked out by someone that knows what they're doing.

Bless his heart!!!!!!!!! How terrible!! I would talk to the vet. on the phone, and ask what he/she would recommend!! Good Luck!!

usually if the dog has an obstruction he will projectile vomit anything he eats. he is still drinking water, so thats good, but watch to see if he vomits that up too. also, you can check his gums to make sure they are still pink, discoloration could indicate that he ate something he shouldn't have (dropped pills, poisonous bugs, etc) to be safe, i would take him to the vet if he continues vomiting or still isn't eating tomorrow morning.
