On a dog what does ear plucking mean? do they really pluck the hairs doesnt it hurt?

Pull a hiar out of your ear or nose or head for that matter.....does it hurt? that should answer your question.

Yes, they really pluck the hair from the ear. This is done in dogs that are very prone to ear infections. There is a powder that you add into the ear that causes the hair to come out very easily. Most dogs deal with it very well, although there are some that have a fit. :)

yes it hurts! try it once and watch your pet cry out. vets dont recommend it. groom your pet properly and their will be no problems with the ears!

Yes, it is plucking the hairs.

Whether it hurts the dog or not depends more upon the skill of the person plucking than it does the sensitivity of the dog.

That being said, some dogs toss fits about it... they're the same dogs who toss fits about having their nails clipped or having their teeth cleaned so I believe, usually, the issue is a control issue rather than a pain issue.

Yes they pluck the hair out of their ears. This is done on long haired breeds, to help keep infection down. Also, if it isn't done those nasty foxtails can twirl inthere and cause immense pain.

As for does it hurt, if you yank the whole wad of it at once, yes, that would be terribly painful. But if you just pull a few at a time, they really don't notice, as the hairs don't seem to be deeply rooted. It's easiest to do with a pair of hemostats, catcha few hairs, roll around the tip, and pull. Much more effective as well.

it means plucking the hair out of the ear canal with tweezers or hemostats, this is done to prevent ear infections, yes it hurts a little its little plucking eyebrows, but it is necessary for some breeds like poodle that have tight/small ear canals and the canal actually gets packed with hair not allowing, oi the description eludes means basically it can cause a painful ear infection. This is like clipping nails dogs don't like it but it is a necessary evil.

Yep - they really pluck the hair. As another said, using a special powder helps tremendously. Some dogs don't tolerate pain well, others seem oblivious, just as with people. My roommate routinely plucked his Standard Poodle's ears - the dog fell asleep during it! Obviously, the process didn't hurt him.

Ear plucking removes the hair from the canal, the technique they use really isn't very painful. Some dogs do better than others. Excess hair in the ear can lead to ear infections, removing the hair aides in letting air get into the ear canal and helps prevent yeast/bacterial infections.

Yes, my bichon-frise/poodle mixes need to have the hair in their ears pulled. In poodles the hair grows down the ear canal and will cause infection if it is not removed. It needs to be done with every grooming or more often. My vet suggested I pull out a little at a time while my dogs are resting. I use tweezers to get a better grip on the hair, but it doesn't hurt them. They don't like it, I think its like cutting their toenails, they have never whined or cries, but they are like "okay, enough already" if I fuss with them too long. But my dogs have fallen asleep too while doing it.

Another thing: if your dog has a foul odor coming from their ears then they probably need their ears clean and if they are poodle, its probably b/c of the hair.

It means to pluck the hair out of their ears. I have only one dog that needs to have this done, which helps to keep his ears clean and free of infection. It's not really necessary in dogs whose ears aren't 'floppy'. It doesn't hurt Max, because we've been doing it since he was a puppy. It doesn't even faze him when it's being done, but you can't do it in big clumps either. You have to do it only a few hairs at a time.

Many small breed dogs, particularly poodles and poodle mixes (I have a poodle mix) have hair that grows in their ears. This hair can get quite long and thick and is the breeding ground for yeast infections. Every 4 to 6 weeks the dog should be taken to the groomer or vet to have the hair plucked. The hair inside the ear is dead follicles and may actually tickle them coming out. My vet assures me that the dog feels no discomfort and from the dogs reaction I believe the vet. In addition to having the hair plucked I use ear wash and cotton balls a minimum of 3 times a week to clean the ear being careful not to poke inside the ear and clean only visible services very gently. In the 14 months that I have had my dog she has never had a yeast infection in her year implementing this plan.
