Is it possible to have bird allergies?

Hi I have a pet Cockatiel that I閳ユ獫e had for 12 years. I閳ユ獡 pretty sure there lifespan is 20-25 so I閳ユ獡 expecting to have him for quite a while. My problem is that I want to move in with my boyfriend, but he has allergies. Cats seem to be the worst, but pollin doesn閳ユ獩 bother him TOO much. He used to live with a short hair dog, and it never bothered him. If I keep the cage somewhere that閳ユ獨 not in the bedroom, and keep it really clean, do you think it will still bother him?

Is it possible to have bird allergies?

Some people are allergic to birds. Cockateils produce a lot of feather dust, so if birds are a problem to him, it could be bad. That being sad, just because he has a problem with cats, it doesnt mean he will have a problem with birds. He can be tested to see if he actually is allergic. Keeping the cage away from the bedroom should help. Has he had problems being around the bird in past? If not, thats a good indicator that he will be ok.

Is it possible to have bird allergies?

Probably-- if he is allergic to birds . It is their dander and/or saliva that causes the allergies. Have the boyfriend stay with you for a while to see if he's allergic to the bird.

Yes, some people are allergic to feathers..

Cats can be easily made hypoallergenic...

The cats allergin is in its saliva...

Bathe your cat twice weekly for 2 months..

Then weekly for another month..

Your cat will lick itself after every bath and soon the

glands which secrete this allergin will stop producting it...

Birds don't generally make people with allergies go off. I have 3 parrots, %26amp; two keets %26amp; 3 finches %26amp; I have allergies to cats %26amp; dogs...bad allergies! The only problem I have is with the litter in the cage, it causes dust. Keep it clean %26amp; he should have no problem. The kind of bird that may make allergies worse is the white cockatoos %26amp; %26amp; the bigger all white birds. They excrete a white powder that sometimes causes more problems with allergies

Anything the bird touches will be infected. If it might help to keep it in one place all the time. But I think I would just leave the bird with someone I could trust.

I have an umbrella cockatoo named Kilo. He has his name for obvious reasons. He lets off so much white dander all the time. I am very allergic to it. I cant help but cuddle with him but i try to wash my hands and face immediately after wards. As far as the airborne dander, i try to keep his room ventialated at all times. Try this with your bird and see if it makes a difference with your boyfriends allergies. It definitely helps mine.
