About two weeks ago we noticed that on her right side she had a bald spot and it looked like something had bitten her. The vet did a wood lamp test and cytology in the office and said he didn't think it was ringworm and did not seem that concerned, however, two weeks later the hair had not grown back and there is some inflammation and slight swelling. Has anyone had this happen to their dogs before, again she is only 8 months old.

Hi, I have a 4 yr old male Maltese, a few weeks ago, he had a little bald spot on his butt too, up by his tail on his left side. It look like he got bite by something, I put A%26amp;D ointment on it, daily and also sprayed it with Benadryl. AFter a few days he stopped biting and it healed. Now the hair is slowly growing back. He is fond of pooping in the Ivy, I think it was a spider bite.

This is sometimes an infection that begins under the skin. I've seen it start with a simple bite or sting and then escalate. I would recommend going back to the vet and let them prescribe an antibiotic to clear it up.

It might be a "hot spot", an inflammation of the skin that can occur if bacteria settles into the skin and the skin is often moist. It's treatable with over-the-counter ointments.
But double check with your vet. He may be able to do a skin scrape test to see what it is. (Some forms of mange start this way, and the scrape test will show if there are mange mites present.)
