Is it easy to cut your own dogs fur rather that go to a salon?

I was just wondering if anyone cuts their own dogs hair at all and did it work out ok? My dog has curly fur and gets very hot very quickly and the salon charges at least 鎷?3 a time. Would it best to do a grooming course to learn properly?

I bought a dog shaving kit from argos it comes with video, my little dog had really thick wild hair so I used to shave it off in summer, takes awhile but she didnt seem to mind kept having breaks and giving her treats she looked so cute when she had bin done. So yeah give it a go you cant really do it wrong with a shaver because you set the length you want and thats it.

If he's used to the noise of the clippers, it should be straightforwards to cut - but to get it looking tidy just takes practice! The first few times you do it he'll have 'scissor marks' which are like straight lines. If you can put up with that just do it yourself. If it would bother you then do a course.

The secret to a good doggy haircut is in the equipment they use, and that's quite expensive, hence the 鎷?3. I've tried doing my own dog with an electric trimmer intended for humans and it was not a pretty sight, but he didn't care and was much cooler. Depends how fussy your dog is.

i have two dogs the female i cut /trim with scissors and a comb i always make sure the comb is between her skin and the scissors, and she is generally happy to sit there and allow me to do this. The male gets pretty aggressive and wont let me snip and comb the hair around certain areas, nor sit still for much, so i get out the hair clippers and he gets kinda scared of em, so it stops him trying to bite me, and i jsut shave him the best i can for the summer.

You should attempt to do it yourself, if you find you have one of them dogs who wont sit still and its just too much of a drama for you then send em to the salon.

It's a heck of a lot cheeper (FREE ) to do it yourself , and the dog doesn't care what he / she looks like , other wise they wouldn't lick their own a$$ in public ! As long as you don't cut or stick them , you will do fine !

If you want your dog to look nice, Invest the money and go to the groomer !Meanwhile between goomers, learn how to trim your dog by paying for the course.Dont make him look bad,he /she likes to look good also !

We have a cocker with long hair and we cut it ourselves all the time. It's just so much easier, you need two people, one to hold her and talk to her and the other to chop and just do little bits at a time and you'll be fine.

It depends if you are fussy about what your dog looks like - as he/she wont care. I used to cut my dogs hair (when he was alive). He was curly too, and it turned out fine. Just dont take too long over it or the dog will get bored and restless and thats when you can accidently cut them. Give it a go - then you can spend the money you save on nice treats for you and doggie !

yes it's easy, but the dog will look like **** when you're finished and he won't thank you for it when he can't get any action

dog do not sweat like people do. so they do not get hot like we do. so cutting the hair will not make them cooler. just easier to take care of. the only dogs who do sweat are the chinese chrested or the other no hair dogs. grooming a dog is not as easy as it looks. that is why most people take there dog to a groomer.

I would have to say that if you are willing to put in the extra time it is definitely worth doing it yourself. I wouldn't think that you would need to so to school just to cut your own dogs fur. Practice makes perfect. I have 2 St. Poodles myself and I groom them myself and learned the technique from a DVD How to groom your dog. $60 x 2 every 6 weeks was just too expensive for me and I have saved lots of money and several funny haircuts latter I throughly enjoy doing it now. Good Luck!
