My dog has all the signs of Cushing's Disease but his tests have come back negative.?

He drinks and urinates excessively, gets in the garbage, has lost some hair, etc. -- all the symptoms of the disease. The vet said his final test is negative. Has anyone ever gone through this or have any suggestions. He is very hard to care for because he is urinating everywhere all the time.

Make sure the vet has checked for more than just Cushings Disease. Urinary tract infections, low thyroid function,diabetes....getting in the garbage is NOT a sign of disease though-it's a sign the owner needs to put the garbage out of reach or supervise the dog a little closer. ;)

It can be other signs as well. It can be a sign that the thyroid level isn't normal. Also the signs of drinking so much could be diabetes. The overdrinking makes them have to urinate more. What goes in must come out like the saying goes.

Was he check for mange with the hair loss or even allergies??? Those are other possibilities. Check with your vet about these.

Good luck.

As W. said earlier, the symptoms that your dog is displaying can be indicative of many different disorders, not just Cushing's. Hypothyroidism, Diabetes, Addison's Disease ... the list goes on and on. Your vet should do a full thyroid panel, and check for other disorders as well.

How old is your dog? The urination may be a separate issue altogether (perhaps just old-age incontinence?). Is there any traces of blood in the urine? What is the color of the urine (dark yellow, or rather pale?) ... and do you see any proteins floating in the urine? Also, what color is your dog? Black dogs with Cushing's tend to lose some hair that does not grow back, but you also tend to see a fading of the color from black to a rusty appearance. The hair texture also gets dry and straw-like with Cushing's.

I say all this because you may not be dealing with one BIG issue (such as Cushing's or Addison's), but instead several smaller problems ... a combination of, perhaps, diabetes and urinary tract infection and some skin irritation, as one example. Many things can cause these symptoms, either together or separately. A lot of this process may be trial and error until you find the verdict.

I'd ask your vet about these other possibilities and make sure he/she tests thoroughly. That's the only way you'll get a good answer.

Good luck!
