What is a good breed of dog that...........?

-Is under 25lbs, because I live in an apartment. (I will give it plenty of excercise)

-Can handle the heat, because I live where temps can get over 100 during the summer.

-Isn't going to bark for no reason, because the neighbors will complain.

-Relatively easy to housebreak, as I know some breeds are known to have difficulty with this.

-Preferably medium to short hair so I don't have to keep it trimmed.

I love dogs, but now that I have moved I have new restrictions. Otherwise I know exactly what I would get.

I would go with a beagle. Why? Because I myself have one, she's mized with some sort of terrier too. She's 6 months old and I was able to house break her in about a week. The breed is very smart and inquisitive. They don't bark at all hours of the night, but when they do they howl.

Don't rule out a mixed breed that's over about 8 months old so you can pretty accurately determine its adult size. Shelters are full of great mixed breeds that deserve wonderful homes. Just avoid short-nosed dogs (like pugs) because they don't handle heat well. Try petfinder.com. Good luck!

Boston Terrier. They make good apartment dogs. They are full of energy though. they are very smart and easy to housebreak. They would not be good if you leave them out all day long but since you live in an apartment I dont see this happening. I live in Texas where it gets very hot, my neighbor has boston terriers outside all the time, they do fine, have lots of shade and plenty of water. I think it just depends on the dog.

We have a beagle and she is at that weight limit. She is sweet and does not bark unless there is a cat in the yard or something. I know some outdoor beagles howl a lot, but she is an inside dog and does not. The only thing I am not sure about is the heat thing. Beagles are loyal and loving and I would recommend one to anyone.

What about a Basenji these dogs are 22 - 24lbs, they have short hair, these dogs are unable to bark, and as far as house breaking that only becomes easy if you're willing to put in the time and your puppy is willing to learn, it will all depend on the temperment of the puppy you chose, hope this helps good luck with your search.

I think a Basenji would work for you. They don't bark, have short hair and are very nice pets. By the way, if you live in a dog building, people around you must be more tolerable if your dog barks occationally. I'd rather listen to a dog bark than loud, obnoxious music any day!
