Can we dye a dog's coat?

Our dog is a medium-sized shar pei-shepherd. She looks like a miniature Scooby Doo. She's 3 1/2 yrs. old.

Recently, we've noticed that her black and dark tan coat by her neck became light. We looked closely and it's "white hairs." I don't know if she's allergic to her shampoo or she's just getting old.

If ever it's a sign of old age, is it safe to dye her coat? Is there a cheap chemical we can use to dye her white hairs? If there is, where can we buy it? Thanks for all your answers.

if you really want to do it. I allways dyed my show horse's tail with human hair dye the Nice N' easy stuff. I am sure it will work for dogs. I would test a small area to make sure your dog does not have a allergic reaction to the chemicals. I do not know why you would want to dye your dog's coat. Its just a sign of getting older. Sometimes injuries or trauma to the area make hair grow back white too. If the collar was irrating her at all it might have caused rubs along the neckline that might have grown back white instead of the normal color.

If you do dye it, make sure it is non-toxic to the dog. I doubt your dog cares about the grey hairs though.

A dog's coat will change over it's lifetime. It is normal and natural.

If you are planning to put chemicals on your dog to dye its fur you really are a selfish person.

Maybe you dyed your hair one too many times and the chemicals got to your brain.

You're honestly that vain that you would want to mask your dog's aging? There's no need to dye her fur everytime you see a white hair.

She's only 3.5 years old..I doubt they're hairs from old age. Some dogs just change their color a little bit over their lifetime.

If you are insisting on doing this, please talk to your vet and find a dog friendly dye...

Can we dye a dog's coat?

Absolutely not.

Hair dyeing is sometimes done using kool-aid and food dye on light poodles and other light, long haired dogs for fun. but using anything permanent is absolutely dangerous to your dog and should never, ever be attempted. Also, such coarse hair would probably not take any sort of color except the dangerous kinds.

White hairs often appear on mixed breed dogs, it's not an allergy or old age, it's just her coloring. Leave it alone and enjoy her the way she is.

No! the dogs skin is delicate and you will hurt her with the dye it will break out in a rash and maybe you'll have to take her to the vet and it will run you a lot of money just to get her skin back to normal and maybe , well there are a lot of maybe so please don't make your dog suffer cause she will suffer it will burn her skin don't do it, don't get me wrong but I just think that is abuse on animal that is torture thank you

if there is make sure the product is NOT tested on animals. many animals have suffered from pain and possibly death by getting tested on. please take that into consideration. to see if it is not tested on animals look it up on google. THANK YOU!

Can we dye a dog's coat?

Oh My God!! were did you get such idea? Do you want to sick/kill that poor animal just to make him look "cool".

Fur changes color overtime and they also get gray hair...leave him alone. Dog are very sensitive to chemical...don't touch that dog!!!!

... "A cheap chemical" ...

Do you honestly believe that applying a "cheap chemical" to your dog is safe?

Can we dye a dog's coat?

You must be crazy. There is no reason in the world to dye

your dogs hair. That is insane. Your dog really should be in a home where she is going to be safe and taken care of in a manner that is good for her. You do not dye your dog's hair. Your dog is not an experiment for you to play with. Your dog is a little being who is in your life to bring you love and show you unconditional love. She does not need to be dyed to do that. If her white hairs bother you, put a scarf around her neck and go see a shrink!
