Dog with skin condition-need helpful advice?

I need advice. One of my young dogs (1 1/2 years old) has gotten into something. I thought at first it was ant bites, bee stings or stinging nettle, something like that. But now he is losing weight and the bad spots aren't healing well.

Let me describe in detail: When I first saw him, I said "What did you get into?!!" His face was all swollen, nose to eyes, and his front legs and feet were, too. Back feet swollen also. There were all these individual bumps, that is what made me think of bites or stings.

Two days later: Some swelling has gone down, but still some there. I noticed an elbow is especially puffy. The bumps have formed individual scabs and when they come off, they are taking a clump of hair, too. I worry whether this is mange, but I never saw it come on so fast and with so much swelling. His toes are still swollen up, some around his nose is swollen, too. His ears are affected more now, I either didn't notice at first or it spread. He eats and drinks OK.

It does sound like mange, but one would never really know what he got into out there. You can give benedryl 1-2 mg PER POUND every 8 hours. Get the tabs cuz its easier to dose it per pound that way, wrap them in cheese to get it in.

Check out the link below ...alot of helpful information on dog skin conditions like mange, allergies etc with home remedies!! When you get there, Just scroll down the page to get to the index.

He definitely got into something or was stung by a swarm of stinging insects.

Have you called your vet? He needs some antihistamine.

Poor thing.

First of all, start giving your dog one benadril capsule, twice a day. (benadril is not harmful to dogs.) It does sound like a serious allergy to something.

This could be from...

something it ate in the yard, house, or where ever.

Some chemical it might have gotten into.

Bathing it will help with the skin issue but please use Johnson's baby shampoo and not some harsh chemical stuff.

When you can, and hopefully soon, please take your dog to the vet.

It could be mange or scabies. Or it could be an insect or snake bite. I would recommend taking him to the vet.

Do tou have fire ants in Oklahoma? If so, you may be lucky your dog is still alive. I can't recommend highly enough that you take your dog to the vet. I also have farm dogs and reactions to different things vary from dog to dog. What doesn't bother 3 nearly puffs #4 up to twice her size. Besides, if a staph infection has set into something simple, such as a bite, or ringworm or even an open allergic hive, you'll have real problems on your hands. A skin scraping from the vet can eliminate possibilities of lice, etc.

you need to talk to a vet ASAP.. When ever you think it maybe be serious you always need to talk to a vet just in case.

good luck though =]
