Do Pomeranians have hair or fur?

I've heard that Fur has dander and its what causes allergies - in the other hand Hair does not. I have a Pom and some people who are usually allergic to dogs dont have a reaction to my Pom...

So if someone can answer this question, that would be great!

Do Pomeranians have hair or fur?

Dogs have fur. Dander is what causes allergies. Dander is minute particles of skin scales and oil that is shedd and gets trapped in their fur.

Many people use the terms fur and hair loosely. I even do that when referring to all the "dog hair" on my furniture. But used correctly, it should be referred to as fur.

People have hair. Dogs have fur.

Dogs are not considered fur-bearing animals. They have hair - dog hair. I had a Pom for many years, and never had a problem with pet dander from her.

I had a pomerian for years and I was allergic to her. They have fur but everyone's system is different. some people can tolerate it and others can't. I kept my pomerian shaved short so it didn't bother me. diet is also the key in allergies. if you feed it a good dog food you won't see her shed as much.

All dogs have fur.

The dander comes from the skin - not the fur, so you see, there is no such thing as a "hypo allergenic" dog, or "designer" breed, that is just a con to get people to buy breeder's dogs.

No reputable breeder would ever claim "hypo allergenic" either.

If you are allergic to dogs - or cats - it is from the dander of the skin.

Since all dogs have skin, there is no such thing as a hypo allergenic dog.

The allergy situation can be very odd, I have 6 dachshund and a granddaughter who has allergies. She is not allergic to any except the chocolate dachsie - not the long hair. Yet when I had another long hair foster she wanted, she was highly allergic to that dog. It seems to be based on an individual dog basis, no way to know until you spend time with the dog - fur has little to do with it.

Poms do have "fur". They also have an undercoat where the dander collects. If you brush your dog often, or have it groomed often, that may be the reason for the lack of reaction from people who usually have allergies. Poodles, some terriors, and a few other breeds have "hair' and don't produce as much dander, it's true. But any dog can have dander and cause allergies to react. A lot of people claim certain dogs are "allergy free" but I've seen allergic reactions to those breeds. I truly beleive it all depends on how often the dog is bathed and what products they are bathed in. How often they are brushed and if they are cut short or left long. Shorter hair on poms does help allergy sufferers. But poms do have fur, with an undercoat, as opposed to hair.

Care and Training: Daily brushing of the long double coat is needed to prevent matting. Monthly bathing is recommended. Pomeranians shed once or twice a year. Clean eyes, ears and teeth regularly. Pomeranians do not need a large amount of exercise. Indoors at home or a romp in the park will suffice. Barking needs to be curbed from an early.

I would say by reading this, that they most definitely have fur.

Let me be truthful with you. I WILL NEVER give up my dogs but, I am allergic to pomeranians undercoat. When I am drying them I always have to sneeze and get a itchy nose. Sometimes it bothers me and sometimes not. Like I said I am devoted to my dogs and they are my life, they will be with me for their entire life.

They have an undercoat and outer guard coat. The undercoat is what bothers me and that is what they shed a lot of.

Females shed a lot compared to males. Males don't shed as often.
