My dog has seizures.....?

he is 7 years old and has had them off and on all of his life. it has been within the last 6 months that they have become more frequent. He has also gotten really moody and doesnt seem to like most people(growls and his hair stands up). I need to know if I should try to do treatment or is he needing to be euthanized(I cant stand the thought of it)?

Have you had him checked by a specialist in epilepsy?

Is he on any medication? I would check with your vet- if he's not currently on meds, then they may be controllable.

Check with the vet before you choose euthanasia. There may be medication that can help him.

When I was growing up we had a dog that had seizures, we heard if you put a table spoon on oil in with there food should help...not fix but Help!!!!

Give it a try!!! I truly hope it does, help for your dog!

I think you should go see a vet and ask about what types of treatment they can do for your dog.. Seizures can be managed but a doctor needs to exam him first.

As far as the growling... thats just b/c he is scared.. image going into a state where when you come out if it you don't know what happened and whats going on..i know I'd be scared! The hair stand on end is just him being scared and taken by surprised... it can also mean he is uncomfortable...in the meantime i suggest that you ask people to ignore him and let him be.

I work at a vet clinic part time. I would recommend that you talk to your vet and ask about medications that they can give you. You will be suprised at the things you can do for an epileptic dog. Good Luck!!!

Please talk to your vet about medication, if he isn't already on it. Just like humans it can be controlled. Has the vet checked to see if he has possible Brain Tumor that is causing the seizures and aggressive mood. From what I have been told seizures take a toll on them, where they can be out of whack for days to even a week after a seizure. There is also the possibility that age is playing a factor in the frequency of them. Please talk to you vet!

oh good nutrition will help too.

my 5 year old dog has had seizures all his life. our vet said that there's nothing to do if he only has 1-2 a month because the medication will have worse side effects than the seizures but as he got older they started to become more frequent and lasting longer so she put him on a pill twice a day. he's had no side effects but once a year he has to get his liver checked. we give it to him in peanut butter so he'll think he's getting a treat.

He used to be very moody also, but since he's been on his medicine his personality has improved tremendously! The biggest side effect is that he sleeps A LOT but other than that...he's doing great!
