Do you have your dog groomed?

I just asked a question of groomers about what kind of education they need to become one. I received a lot of terrific informative answers. The reason for this question is because of a special on TV, not sure if it was Inside Edition or not, regarding the fact that complaints against groomers has risen 50% in the past 5 years. Two people interviewed were notified that their dogs had died while being groomed. One 9 year old was left unattended on the grooming table, tethered, and was found hanging when the groomer returned. The other one was put in the kennel with the hair blower. It was a breed with the little pushed in faces and it couldn't breath.

I just wanted to let people know that groomers should have attended some type of school or training session before going on their own. Interview your groomer and make sure you are satisfied with them. I checked with people I know %26amp; they all love their groomers %26amp; have never had a problem. Check out my question to groomers.

I groom my own dogs. I used to work as a bather/brusher at a groomer and Ive seen things that I dont think are right.

When clipping nails, she wanted them as short as possible, even if it meant that you end up accidently cutting the quick. She did not purposly cut the quick, but wanted those nails trimmed as far down as possible.

I have seen her smack fidgity dogs on the nose with a brush.

One badly matted cocker came in, he had cockleburs and mud all in his coat. One of the younger groomers started cutting with scissors and cut a huge chunk out of his skin. The older groomer use superglue and glued the skin back on!

I have had my dogs groomed before. But after reading what you've written, I will definitely interview future groomes.

Wow! Thats crazy! I have never gotten my pet groomed before. I only have two gerbils, so its really not needed. I have thought about it though, but now I definetly won't take mine to one!

A lot of groomers will hate me for saying this but...... I'm aloud. I worked for a groomer in Chicago to pay off two Borzoi's I couldn't live without. That's where I got my training. They were breeders %26amp; great groomers. So I can let you know, you are better off grooming your dogs @ home. No-one ever handles your dogs @ you would. I have quite jobs because they are like factory's %26amp; the faster they get done the more $. I refuse to treat animals that way so refuse to make $ that way. I could make a lot but it's not worth it. So unless you absolutely know who you are dealing with I strongly advise not to take them. It gives you a better relationship w/ your dog in the long run too. Any ?'s just ask me.

I've heard horrible stories like this as well. I've also heard and witnessed dogs' behavior after being at certain other salons then coming to ours. You have to wonder what on earth happened to a dog that comes in to your salon seeming all happy go lucky, then goes absolutely ape on you when you touch its feet, or you try to bathe it. In other words, you feel like you can tell when a dog has had a bad prior grooming experience.
