My dog wont stop itching! She is miserable and losing hairs... help! What can I do?

She hates the vet and behaves so badly there that i cant take her. So this is really a last option...

It could be many things, exema, fleas, mange, allergies...save time %26amp; agony for your dog by going to the vet. If it's not something obvious such as fleas...the vet can do tests to determine the exact cause. And you say she hates the vet, so call ahead %26amp; tell them that %26amp; they can probably give you some type of tranquilizer to use to calm her down enough for you to get her to the vets office to be checked. Good Luck!

She has fleas! Either that or mange. If she won't go to the vet, get the vet to make a house call! Most vets do!

Could be fleas, but--- Take her to the Vet! Ask the vet for a pill that will make her, a little loopy... My cat didn't like the vet either, we always had to give him a pill to go so he wouldn't jump up and knock everything down from his desk again.. Good Luck! LuvCarly

take her to a vet, get a flea and tic medication for her at the very least she can give u one of those funny looking white collars to help her stop trying to bite and scratch.

You have to take the animal to the vet because iching and hair loss are signs of mange and can be very uncomfortable and painful to the animal so she may hate the vet but treat her like you would your child tough and take her anyway and if you have to let the vet know that your dog may need a muzzel in order to be treated also they can sedate her so the experiance won't be so tramatic but you have to take her to the vet.

First, look the pup over and see if you see any fleas hopping about or if you see any 'flea dirt'. You can usually see this around the belly area and where the legs meet the torso. If you do see fleas, go to your local vet and buy front line and use as directed. If you don't see fleas, you might want to look into the idea that your pup is suffering from a food allergy. You might have to buy a more expensive food (I recommend Nutro) to help with the allergies. You will want to talk this over with your vet also.

how about ,,,TAKE THE DOG TO A VET.you have to be smarter than that!!!

It could also be allergies- terriers often have this.

The vet would need to determine though and give a perscription.

Give the poor dog a bath and put some flea powder on it.

call the vet you may be able to give her Benadryl for the itching.. it may be a skin condition called"Red Hair Mange" it is not the same as mange it is caused by stress and it could be from the stress of maybe fleas or something else.. or it may just be very dry skin.. either way call the vet and if they let you give her Benadryl this may also calm her down enough so that you are able to bring her in...

I had a dog that freaked whenever we brought him to get groomed and we gave him Benadryl and it worked... Hope this helps!!

Two things come to mind right away for me. Dry skin from the environment where she plays, or some type of cleaner on the carpet. Add omega 3 capsules or some type of skin supplement. The other thing would be some type of parasite. Worms or fleas. As fas as the issue with the vet, buy some nice dog treats and give some to the vet techs at your vets office. Have the tech meet you outside the office the first couple of times. Build up a litle rapport with them. Also the Kraft cheese in a can works well. In order to comply with city and state regulations, the dog is going to need to be seen by a vet for rabies shots any way. The socialization is a necessity! Good Luck

My dog has allergies. She does not have fleas.

Allergic to what I don't know, but I have to bathe her at least once a week.

I have used a generic dandruff shampoo that seemed to help.

The vet also gave me a Hydrocortisone leave in conditioner, but it cost $14 and didn't seem to help.

Are there any other symptoms?

Sores, or rash?

I knew a girl whose dog was allergic to grass.

She had to give it antihistamines.

Unfortunately, you may have to inconvenience your poor pooch! It sounds to me like she's got some allergies. Could be to her food, could be to something environmental...definitely get her checked, though.

Brush your dog

Comb (not brush) your dog, then look at the hairs in the comb. Are there little black specks in the fur? Look near the base of the fur and see if there's little white specks. Those mean fleas and your dog needs to get a flea treatment like Frontline or Advantage.

Also, when is the last time your dog had a bath, and what did you use? You don't want to use human shampoo, those will mess up a dog's skin. Look for a dog shampoo that says it's gentle and follow the directions on the bottle.

If the bath doesn't help and there's no sign of fleas, you'll have to take her to the vets, because it's probably something like allergies or mange that can't be treated properly at home.

it sounds like mange or fleas...she needs a vet to give her an antibiotic.

sounds like mange...a condition caused by 1 of 2 types of microscopic lice. The itching suggests sarcoptic mange...only through treatment from a vet will this condition be cured. These lice burrow into the skin or hair folicles and shampooing won't get rid of them. I have worked as an animal tech for 7 years

Take your dog swimming. Whenever I take my dog swimming, she stops inching for a few days. She doesn't have fleas or ticks, either. I think all of the water helps moisturize her skin without drying it out. I recommend a puppy park pool (if it is clean, otherwise you will have to bath her afterward) or a lake that is clean.

Good luck.

Your dog can have allergies. They get them like humans do.That will require a vet visit for the medication required tohelp her stop tearing herself up. There are also shampoos and treatments at your local pet store to help ease the pain and itch she is going thru. She may dislike the vet, but that may be her only relief.

i think your dog has some sort of infection or it might have virus perhaps this virus has attacked her intenstines so that why she is doing thisotherwise after few days your doggie could have some indigestion problem
