Malting dog is getting mum down?

I have a 1 year and 4 month old male Rottweiler and from the day we brought him home, he has malted, he his an indoor dog, so is allowed in our room, as there isnt really anywhere else for him, he is HUGE, a lot bigger than most and is still growing.

my mum is getting really depressed with all the hairs, and she sweeps up 4 times a day, bringing in lots of hairs.. im surprised he isnt bald!... Apart from putting him outside (as there is somethings we need to do the garden first and we are planning on moving him into the garden in Summer) or getting rid of him (We really want to keep him, and no matter what we will) is there anything else we can do to possible Stop his malting, or reduce it?

Thank you so much for all your help.

*This is one of the reasons why people need to really research the dog prior to bringing him home! Please just brush him daily %26amp; don't get rid of him or make him live in the garden! It will break his heart %26amp; spirit! Good Luck!

Unfortunately, Rotties shed. A lot. Twice a year they shed more.

The only thing you can do to reduce the shedding is to brush him daily and feed him a quality diet.

Daily grooming should help, but some dogs are prone to malt alot. we all get depressed with dog hair, I know I do especilly when it gets on my dark clothes.

The only way to help is to brush him regularly, a couple of times a day. You can buy a glove that has different textures to help drag loose hairs out, and to help keep the coat shiny. If the hair loss is really excessive, pop him along to your vet, there may be an underlying problem that is causing this. In the meantime, if you can, give him a good bath, use Exmarid dog shampoo, this will initially loosen lots more hair, but when he is dry, give him a really good brush, and try and keep this up on a daily basis. But do get him checked at the vet for your own peace of mind.

there is a product by vitapet called moult formula which is ideal for that problem or you could try cod liver oil. both of these you pour a few spoonfulls on his food

Regular grooming is what you need to do in order to keep it under control to some degree. I have used a shedding blade on shorter coated dogs and it works really well at pulling out all the dead and loose hair. Still needs to be done often, but if you can do this outside, hopefully it can help with the indoor hair issue.

My dogs live inside and moult all year round, my carpets are covered in white hairs constantly. Central heating is the cause of dogs moulting all year. If your dog were to live outside he would develop a much coarser coat but would only moult twice a year. The best thing to do is to groom your dog daily, it does stop them shedding quite so much hair.

Brush your pet with a good brush and then with a chamois leather. I have six long haired dogs...you learn to deal with it! PS...its Moulting for dogs and cats, malting is what you do when you make beer and molting in birds.

You don't say how long you have had him, but if he is a recent addition my dog shed ALOT for the first few weeks (I think it was stress), but it did get better.

Twice a year for about a fortnight it is still pretty bad, but as long as you brush him twice a day that's about it.

Take him outside and brush him, and help your mom manage the housecleaning. Brushing really does help a lot.

try brushing the coat the wrong way against the hairs then the right way, wearing rubber gloves and then running your hands down the coat removes lots of dead, but maybe you could get him checked out, i have a staffy and they hardly shed but he was driving me nuts with all the hair loss, took him to the vets and he had a bacterial skin infection, after two days on medication the shedding stopped, what a difference to the home i can tell you, hope you can get it resolved!!

Regular grooming

proper nutrition and diet

Comb your Rottie everyday

There is Shampoo to help with shedding

it's really hard especially if you have white clothing and white everything when your dog is black, I know, I have a black dog also.

Don't give him away! It's not his fault!!!!!

Good Luck!

Point of clarification - he's not "molting" (usually "molting" is used to refer to what birds do), he's "shedding". And as Bassetnut pointed out, Rotties shed. A lot.

Brush him. A lot.
